Eligible weights in men’s freestyle and Greco consisted of eight from 1960-68; ten from 1969-96; eight from 1997-2001; seven from 2002-13, eight starting in 2014 and back to 10 in 2019. In 2016, the UWW also sponsored a World Championships in the two weights (in each style) that were not included in the 2016 Olympics. The first women’s championships were in 1987 and started with nine weights until 1996; six from 1997-2001; seven 2002-13 and eight starting in 2014 and to 10 in 2019.
