Edinboro’s Chris Honeycutt among leaders in many categories
By Mike Finn
Edinboro’s Chris Honeycutt, Lehigh’s Joey Napoli, Oregon State’s R.J. Pena, Buffalo’s Mark Lewandowski and Central Michigan’s Joe Roth are the individual leaders of the top five statistical categories in NCAA Division I wrestling, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association as of Jan. 23.
Honeycutt, ranked No. at 197 pounds, is one of a dozen ranked wrestlers this year that are undefeated and the Fighting Scott senior leads the field with a 29-0 record.
The only wrestler that has earned more wins this season is Napoli, a 157-pound junior who has compiled a 31-6 record while taking a redshirt season for the Mountain Hawks. Meanwhile two other Edinboro wrestlers also have 29 wins: 149-pound David Habat (29-4) and 133-pound Aaron Schopp (29-3).
In the other three categories, Pena, a sophomore, has recorded the most falls (18), while Lewandowski, a junior, has tallied nine technical falls — just one more than Honeycutt — and Roth, a sophomore, leads Division I wrestlers with 12 major decisions.
