For the 24th time, the National Wrestling Coaches Association held its mid-season Multi-Division National Dual Championships — for the eighth time in Cedar Falls, Iowa — and there was something traditional about this year’s event, Jan. 10-11, in the UNI Dome.

That is because five of the six team champions all added to past winning traditions at the National Duals, while the sixth team — host school Northern Iowa — won the tournament that was featuring NCAA Division I teams for the first time since 2017. The Panthers, ranked sixth nationally by WIN, only lost six individual bouts as they defeated South Dakota State for the title after earlier beating Sacred Heart, Ohio, and Northern Colorado.

Meanwhile …

  • St. Cloud State (Minnesota) captured the title among NCAA Div. II teams for the ninth time, when it rallied from a 16-0 deficit to beat 2024 National Dual champion Central Oklahoma, 21-16 … as the dual came down to the heavyweight bout where La`Ron Parks defeated Judson Rowland, 4-1;
  • Only Augsburg (Minneapolis) and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa) have won team titles amongst NCAA Division III teams … and the Auggies won the title for a ninth time when they won four straight matches to take a 17-6 lead after seven bouts and held off a late challenge from Wartburg (with 14 titles), which won the last three bouts.
  • Grand View, which had won 11 straight team titles before Life University ended that streak in 2024 with a championship over the Des Moines-based school, avenged that loss with a dominating 32-3 victory over the Georgia school in the tournament featuring NAIA schools.
  • Life and Grand View also met in the final of the women’s tourney, featuring NAIA schools, and the Georgia squad prevailed 30-12 to win a second straight championship.
  • The Iowa women also won a second straight championship among NCAA-based schools when the Hawkeyes dominated North Central, 28-13, one year after Iowa edged the Illinois school by one point.
