Relive all the memories from record-setting Fargo

The 2024 USMC Junior/16U Nationals recently finished with a record-setting number of wrestlers who competed in six different tournaments over a week in Fargo, N.D., and WIN Magazine was there to capture many of the top moments.

The following is a list of many of the stories that appeared in the latest issue of WIN Magazine:

Page 7 – GOLDEN OPPORTUNITIES – Fargo drew more wrestlers … and gave more opportunities for athletes to make names for themselves … and USA Wrestling executive director Rich Bender shared his pride in the organization and sport as a whole.

Page 22 – BACK TO HIS ROOTS – Many of the 2008 USA Olympians were coaching young athletes in Fargo, including Daniel Cormier, who transitioned out of a successful MMA career to help wrestlers like Junior champ Daniel Zepeda.

Page 28 – BEING A BASSETT – 16U champ Keegan Bassett showed he could be just as competitive at a young age as his well-known brother Bo; so too was Junior champ Melvin Miller, who moved in with this wrestling family in Pennsylvania.

Page 35 – PA POWER – At a time when the state of Pennsylvania just started sponsoring girls wrestling at the prep level, the Keystone State young women showed they are just as successful as their wrestling brothers in Fargo.

Page 37 – WOMEN’S SCHALLES & JUNIOR SCHALLES – Grand View’s Abby McIntyre and Millie Azlin, a prep standout from Bixby, Okla., were named the first winners of the pinning awards that were named after former Clarion great Wade Schalles.

Page 40 – AAU SCHOLASTIC DUALS – Over 2,500 wrestlers from 16 states gathered in Florida on 142 teams for the AAU’s crown-jewel dual-team tournament in late June. MAWA Blue and RPA/Head Hunters WC won All-Star division titles.

Page 42 – RMN EVENTS FEATURE – Wrestling has helped 10-year-old Emery Merlos of California deal with the death of her father, along with help from her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach Doyle Teel.

Page 44 – IOWA LEADS IN ATTENDANCE AGAIN – For the 17th straight year, the Iowa Hawkeyes led college wrestling in attendance as an average of 14,487 fans filled a packed Carver-Hawkeye Arena last winter.
