Louisiana to sanction girls wrestling as state tourneys get underway

This weekend nearly 100 girls from the state of Louisiana are scheduled to compete in an unofficial girls state tournament in Baton Rouge. Next year, girls high school wrestlers from the Bayou State will be able to compete in an official tournament.

For yesterday, Jan. 25, 2024, Louisiana became the 45th different state in the country to add girls high school wrestling when the Louisiana High School Athletic Association voted to officially sanction the sport beginning in 2024-25.

This comes at a time when the majority of the other states are about to hold their sanctioned state tournaments.

The following is a listing of where and when the other 44 states will hold their sanctioned girls state championships. Please note that Alabama and Alaska have already held their postseason events.
