All seeded wrestlers won their first matches of 2017, including a trio who all scored falls:

• Lehigh’s No. 4 Darian Cruz pinned another former All-American in unseeded Dylan Peters of Northern Iowa in 59 seconds.
• Oklahoma State’s No. 8 Nick Piccininni, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit to flatten Indiana’s Elijah Oliver in 1:45;
• NC State’s Sean Fausz, who pinned Eastern Michigan’s Noah Gonser in 3:19.

Minnesota’s Ethan Lizak, the No. 5 seed, got a scare from Oklahoma’s Christian Moody before the Gopher held on to win 10-8.

Michigan’s Connor Youtsey, who returned at midseason to wrestle for the Wolverines, lost this first round match to Wyoming’s No. 15 seed Drew Templeman, 4-3.
