Missouri & Iowa headline big NCAA qualifying weekend

NEWTON, Iowa — With the eight remaining NCAA qualifying tournaments slated to take place this weekend, Missouri and Iowa remain the top two teams in WIN’s March 2 Tournament Power Index and Rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

Missouri will enter the Mid-American Conference tournament, March 7-8, in Columbia, Mo., with 84 TPI points and five wrestlers rated among the Top 8 in their weight class. Iowa, which will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the March 7-8 Big Ten tournament, has 81.5 TPI points with eight wrestlers ranked in the Top 8.

TPI point totals are broken down by the following projected NCAA placements: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5); 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final actual NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.

WIN’s final updated TPI and individual rankings will be announced on Monday, March 9, which will include results from all the NCAA qualifying tournaments that will take place this weekend.

The Pac-12 Championships took place on March 1, with Oregon State winning a fourth team championship and sending seven of the 19 Pac-12 automatic qualifiers to the national tournament, which will be held March 19-21 in St. Louis.

The following is a list of the eight remaining qualifying tournaments, including dates, location and how many automatic qualifiers the NCAA established last week. The Big 12, which has just four teams, did not earn any automatic qualifiers. Instead, those wrestlers will be among the 70 at-large wrestlers selected by the NCAA on March 11.
