Session V Notes 

125 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (9) Caleb Smith (Nebraska) maj. (10) Stevo Poulin (Northern Colorado), 18-5
    • The Husker scored five total takedowns, including three in the third period, to put a stamp on his seventh-place finish and second straight All-American finish.
  • 5th: (3) Eddie Ventresca (VT) dec. (8) Sheldon Seymour (Lehigh), 11-4
    • In a match that started the third period with a 3-2 score, the Hokie broke away late with an escape, two takedowns and a point for riding time advantage.
  • 3rd: (1) Luke Lilledahl (Penn State) fall (2) Matt Ramos (Purdue), 6:18
    • Leading 8-4 in the final minute, the Nittany Lion freshman planted the boilermaker on his back and secured a late fall to finish third.

 

133 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (17) Jacob Van Dee (Nebraska) dec. (13) Tyler Knox (Stanford), 7-2
    • The Husker used takedowns in the first and third periods to cruise to a seventh-place finish and his first career All-American honor.
  • 5th: (8) Braeden Davis (Penn State) fall (6) Connor McGonagle (VT), 2:33
    • After a quick takedown by Davis and escape by the Hokie, Davis tossed McGonagle to his back and secured the first-period fall.
  • 3rd: (4) Zeth Romney (Cal Poly) dec. (14) Zan Fugitt (Wisconsin), 7-3
    • First and third period takedowns proved to be the difference for the Mustang sophomore, who finished in third as a first-time All-American.

 

141 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (9) Jacob Frost (Iowa State) maj. (6) Vance VomBaur (Minnesota), 17-3
    • The Cyclone’s four takedowns and a late four-point nearfall proved to be enough for a bonus-point victory over the returning All-American Gopher.
  • 5th: (5) Cael Happel (Northern Iowa) dec. (4) Josh Koderhandt (Navy), 7-2
    • The Panther scored first and third period takedowns, wrestling to his seed with a fifth-place finish.
  • 3rd: (2) Beau Bartlett (Penn State) maj. (7) CJ Composto (Penn), 11-2
    • The Nittany Lion planted the Quaker on his back for a seven-point move in the second period, nearly securing a fall, and added a third period takedown to secure a major decision in his final collegiate match.

 

149 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (11) Sammy Alvarez (Rider) dec. (22) Gavin Drexler (NDSU), 9-6 SV-1
    • In a rematch of the preliminary bout, also won by Alvarez, three total reversals were scored before the Bronco scored a takedown in sudden victory to clinch seventh place.
  • 5th: (6) Lachlan McNeil (North Carolina) dec. (12) Ethan Stiles (Oregon State), 8-4
    • Despite surrendering a buzzer-beating takedown in the first frame, the Tar Heel stormed back with a second period takedown and an escape, takedown and riding time point in the third frame to avenge a February dual meet loss to the Beaver.
  • 3rd: (3) Shayne Van Ness (Penn State) maj. (13) Dylan D’Emilio (Ohio State), 15-4
    • The Nottany Lion scored a first period takedown but exploded in the second period, using a cement job to take the Buckeye senior to his back and nearly secured a fall.

 

157 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (11) Matty Bianchi (Little Rock) dec. (12) Caleb Fish (Oklahoma State), 4-2
    • A takedown with just 10 ticks remaining in the second period proved to be the difference for the Trojan first-time All-American.
  • 5th: (2) Meyer Shapiro maj. (7) Vince Zerban (Northern Colorado), 11-0
    • In a rematch of Friday morning’s quarterfinals, in which Shapiro won via a 9-4 decision, the Big Red sophomore opened up the scoring with a takedown in each period to secure a shutout major decision.
  • 3rd: (1) Tyler Kasak (Penn State) maj. (20) Trevor Chumbley (Northwestern), 8-0
    • Kasak scored a takedown in the first 40 seconds and rode out the remainder of the first period before scoring an escape, takedown and riding time point in the final frame to secure bonus points.

 

165 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (9) Cam Steed (Missouri) fall (8) Cameron Amine (Oklahoma State), 2:08
    • The Tiger fended off a shot and sent the Cowboy to his back with a head and arm elevator while clamping down and securing the first-period fall.
  • 5th: (4) Terrell Barraclough (Utah Valley) dec. (7) Hunter Garvin (Stanford), 1-0
    • The Penn State transfer turned Wolverine earned an escape in the second period to secure a fifth-place finish.
  • 3rd: (2) Peyton Hall (West Virginia) maj. (12) Christopher Minto (Nebraska), 13-5
    • Becoming just the third three-time All-American in program history, the Mountaineer surrendered an early takedown but stormed back with three takedowns of his own and cruised to a major decision.

 

174 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (14) Matt Singleton (NC State) dec. (7) Danny Wask (Navy), 3-1
    • The Wolfpack veteran secured two nearfall points in the third frame which settled the score in this seventh-place bout.
  • 5th: (5) Simon Ruiz (Cornell) dec. (13) Cade DeVos (SDSU), 2-1
    • The pair traded escapes in this quarterfinal rematch, but the Big Red freshman avenged his Friday morning loss by securing a riding time point.
  • 3rd: (2) Levi Haines (Penn State) maj. (11) Patrick Kennedy (Iowa), 11-3
    • The Nittany Lion scored one takedown in each period and added an escape and point for riding time advantage.

 

184 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (13) Silas Allred (Nebraska) dec. (22) Donnell Washington (Indiana), 4-2
    • First-time AA Allred scored a first period takedown and fended off the Hoosier to finish in seventh.
  • 5th: (6) Chris Foca (Cornell) dec. (8) Jaxon Smith (Maryland), 7-4
    • An escape and takedown sequence in the second period gave the Big Red senior a lead, as Foca sealed his fifth-place finish with another third period takedown.
  • 3rd: (3) Max McEnelly (Minnesota) dec. (4) Dustin Plott (Oklahoma State), 6-5
    • After Plott rode out the second period and was awarded a point for stalling, the rookie Gopher scored two third period takedowns to claim third place.

 

197 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (6) Mac Stout (Pitt) maj. (20) Camden McDanel (Nebraska), 12-3
    • The Panther, who made headlines earlier in the tournament for having to go through his older brother, Luke, to reach the podium, dominated his seventh-place bout with three takedowns.
  • 5th: (15) Joey Novak (Wyoming) maj. (12) Stephen Little (Little Rock), 8-0
    • The Cowboy used first and second period takedowns and added an escape and riding time point to secure a major decision.
  • 3rd: (3) AJ Ferrari (CSU Bakersfield) dec. (1) Jacob Cardenas (Michigan), 2-0
    • The Roadrunner scored an escape in the second period and rode out the third period to secure the victory.

 

285 Medal Rounds:

  • 7th: (6) Josh Heindselman (Michigan) dec. (5) Ben Kueter (Iowa), 2-1
    • Two stall warnings and a subsequent point for stalling in the second period was all the Oklahoma transfer needed to secure a seventh-place finish for the Wolverines.
  • 5th: (4) Owen Trephan (Lehigh) med (3) Greg Kerkvliet (Penn State)
  • 3rd: (9) Cohlton Schultz (Arizona State) dec. (7) Isaac Trumble (NC State), 5-3
    • With Schultz leading 1-0 entering the third period and in the top position, the Sun Devil secured two nearfall points before yielding a reversal to the Wolfpack junior, only to score a reversal of his own and cap off his career with a third-place finish.
