NCAA Div. I Highlights from Friday

• After trailing 14-0 after three matches and down 18-10 after seven bouts, Wyoming won the final three matches to beat Drexel, 20-18, in the first round. The final match saw Cowboy Sam Mitchell beat Dom Petracci, 3-1, at heavyweight.
• Little Rock reached Saturday’s semifinals with a 22-19 victory over Cal Poly, thanks to bonus-point victories by four wrestlers, including a pin by Tyler Brennan over Blake Hinrichsen at 174 pounds and a TF by Stephen Little at 197 to clinch the dual for the Trojans from Arkansas. The Mustangs from California certainly made it interesting, especially when No. 4-ranked Zeth Romney pinned Little Rock’s No. 9-ranked Nasir Bailey at 133 pounds. Meanwhile in another match between ranked wrestlers, Cal Poly’s No. 7 Chance Lamer edged No. 12 Jordan Williams 4-2.
• No. 2 seed South Dakota State also advanced to Saturday’s semifinals with 21-16 victory over Penn … but only after the Jackrabbits rallied from a 16-3 deficit after five bouts; highlighted by a pin by Jude Swisher for the Quakers at 157. SDSU then won the final five matches with Thomas Dineer (MD) and Luke Rasmussen (TF) scoring bonus points at 197 and Hwt.
