Notre Dame, Wartburg, Grand View, Clackamas & King crown champs … again!
Multi-Divisional National Duals feature former champs in five divisions
The NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals — held Jan. 8-9 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind. — do not determine the official team championships on five different levels other than NCAA Division I. But the five schools who emerged as dual champions at this year’s event showed once again they have the best teams from top to bottom.
That includes Wartburg College (NCAA Div. III), Grand View University (NAIA) and King University (Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association) that all repeated as champions, while both Notre Dame College (NCAA Div. II) and Clackamas Community College (NJCAA) returned to the top of this annual event hosted by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
The NWCA will also sponsor a National Duals tournament for NCAA Division I schools when the University of Iowa will play host for a second consecutive year on Feb. 21. According to the NWCA, the top 8 Big Ten conference teams will be selected on February 14 to participate based on their NWCA Coaches Poll Rankings. The dual-meet champion from the seven “non-Big Ten” conferences will also receive an automatic bid to participate. One “non-Big Ten” wild card team will be chosen based on its coaches poll ranking to round out the field of 16 teams.
