WRESTLING RANKINGS
Wednesday, Jan. 12 (For Immediate Release)
EDMOND, Okla. -- Defending champion Nebraska-Omaha retained its unanimous
position atop the NCAA Division II wrestling rankings and will be the
favorite in the NWCA Division II National Duals set for next week, according
to the poll released Wednesday by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches’
Association.
The Mavericks received all eight first-place votes and finished with 160
points to stay in front of second-place Augustana (S.D.), which garnered 148
points. Ashland (Ohio) moved from fifth to third in the rankings, followed
by Nebraska-Kearney and Mercyhurst (Pa.).
Rounding out the top 10 was Central Oklahoma, Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.),
Minnesota State-Mankato, San Francisco State (Calif.) and Findlay (Ohio).
Nebraska-Omaha, which will host the 2005 national tournament on March 11-12,
2005, has three top-ranked individuals in Dustin Tovar (125), J.D. Naig
(165) and Les Sigman (285).
Fourteen of the top 20 teams will compete in the NWCA Division II National
Duals, set for Jan. 21-22 in Cleveland, Ohio. The 16-team field is made up
of the entire top 10 in addition to No. 12 Shippensburg (Pa.), No. 13
Wisconsin-Parkside, No. 15 North Carolina-Pembroke, No. 17 Central Missouri
State and unranked Carson-Newman (Tenn.) and Gannon (Pa.).

ion II wrestling rankings in the first regular season poll that was released Wednesday by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches’ Association.
The Mavericks were a unanimous No. 1 pick, receiving all eight first-place votes and finishing with 160 points to easily outdistance second-place Augustana (S.D.). Nebraska-Kearney was third in the voting, with Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.) fourth and Ashland (Ohio) jumping from 11th to fifth.
Rounding out the top 10 was Central Oklahoma, Minnesota State-Mankato, Mercyhurst (Pa.), San Francisco State (Calif.) and Shippensburg (Pa.).
Nebraska-Omaha, which will host the 2005 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships on March 11-12, 2005, has six individuals ranked in the top two -- No. 1s Dustin Tovar (125), J.D. Naig (165) and Les Sigman (285) and No. 2s Mitch Waite (133), Eli Dominguez (141) and Patrick Allibone (149).
Augustana is led by top-ranked Ryan King (149) and Tom Meester (184), while Nebraska-Kearney also has two No. 1s in Adam Keiswetter (133) and Jeff Sylvester (197).
